“When I’m 64…”

June 15, 2011  |  c64 Yourself

What would Okami, Crysis or BioShock look like as Commodore 64 games? Thanks to ROBOTERALARM’s awesome web app c64 Yourself, I still don’t have a clue. What would they look like as C64 loading screens? Now we’re talking. In the age of the cassette, loading screens often spent more time on your telly than the games themselves – and were often more fun. I fed a few of today’s classics into this 320×200 pixel voodoo machine to see what 64k of RAM and 16 colours would add or subtract. When you inflict that much damage, which games survive and why? You’d think the really bleak ones – Stalker, Resident Evil 4, Doom 3 – would come out worst. Click here and think again.

    DO IT.

  3. This is awesome. My introduction to the world of J.R.R. Tolkien when I was a kid was through the C64 – The Hobbit text adventure game. It had art such as this as intervals when you hit certain landmarks in the game…the Misty Mountains…Rivendell…Mirkwood…etc. I haven’t seen art like this in ages, and it instantly took me back to that time.
