iPad Collection
I’m doing my best impression of an Apple TV commercial here but I need your help to finish it. Fire up Spotify and find an overlooked indie pop act with just enough tunes in them for one, maybe two, albums. Develop a hyperactivity disorder. Lower your expectations of what good gameplay involves. Now read the rest of this like some smug urban gentrifier who struggles to pluck their own pubes without help from a £1.99 Darwin-skinned assistant. We’re there! Seriously, though, I had to do something for iPad now I’m sufficiently goddamn hip enough to own one. Custom CSS for tablets? A whole new section for zany resolutions I last used in 1998? Too time-consuming – I’ve enough distractions as it is. Then it hit me: I’ve been doing stuff for iPad for years! The occasional portrait shot, the lop-sided landscapes, the too-smalls and the not-quites: a whole library of gorgeous game images that simply didn’t pass muster because they were made, unknowingly, for the wrong type of screen. There is a lot of stuff you haven’t seen before here, in a portrait ratio that gives it all a neat little twist. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go tell some homeless dudes how indispensable Shazam is. UPDATE: By popular demand, I’ve added 160 wallpapers formatted at 1024×1024 resolution. This way, fellow poseurs…
These looks great. I would suggest creating them at 1024×1024 so they can be set as wallpapers and so they look decent in either orientation.

One problem: your wallapers only work in vertical orientation, not horizontal.
A proper iPad wallpaper technically needs to be in 1024 x 1024 – a square so that it scales properly to both orientations. It’ll show and cut out different things in each orientation, with only the core 768 x 768 pixels showing up in both orientations.
Still great work though, just sayin’.
My tablet (8.9″ galaxy tab) needs 1200×1024 images for wallpapers. Makes me sad… because some of those images are damn good.
Thanks for adding the 1024×1024 sizes. I should have mentioned that as I do the same thing for my photos that I post for wallpapers for your desktop, iPad, or iPhone on my blog. I love the Half Life 2 screens, those are awesome. Do you have desktop versions of those?
How about some images designed for mobile phones? At the moment I’m using your pics on my Windows Phone, it actually isn’t too big an issue as it allows you to crop and zoom them as you wish allowing for some even more stylised pics.
However, browsing to and downloading them can be a right pain in the arse. Anyhoo, thanks again for the fantastic site, keep up the excellent work and happy new year!
If this collection of wallpapers were an app (doubling as a neat coffee-table book app), I’d pay a buck for it. Just saying.
